Asylum, sanctuary and respect.
Because life is sacred, everyone is equal, and everyone needs to receive, and show, compassion.
So everyone has a responsibility to everyone else, to offer shelter and sanctuary to those whose safety and security is being threatened, whether by natural disasters or human aggression.
This principle is enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, which says :
“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status”
